Generative AI covers the models that produce text, code, images, and audio — large language models and the applications built directly on them. For most people it arrives as a chat window: fast, capable, and personal.

Gen AI is often considered Personal AI in comparison to Organisational AI. A copilot is brilliant for the person using it, but it has no shared memory of the business — every session starts empty, and nothing it works out accrues anywhere. Getting from the first to the second is what an AI OS is for.
